Walk a straight line 2003
80km / 22 hour continuous walking performance along Pacific Coast Highway (#1) from UC Irvine, Irvine CA to Track 16 Gallery, Los Angeles, CA
11:30pm, June 6th - 9:30pm, June 7th, 2003
In Walk A Straight Line, a distance of 80 kilometers (50 miles) - from Irvine to LA - was walked in 22 hours along the Pacific Coast Highway, a distance that is approximately a one-hour drive. Set against the normative Southern Californian architecture that is defined by freeways and automobiles, the act of walking such a distance, at once absurd and impractical, becomes a conscious gesture towards reclaiming and reinscribing this space with a real body-in-motion.
