Beautox Me 2012
2-channel HD video
CSA Space, Vancouver
curated by Steven Tong
September 6 - October 7, 2012
Beautox Me takes the faces of actors as the canvas for cosmetic / artistic intervention. In the era of High Definition media, actors who are curious to experiment with body modifications - specifically less emotive facial expressions as applied to acting - were selectively recruited for botox facial injections. The collaborating actors then posed for 'before' and 'after' video shoots while reciting highly affective scripts. The two channels are synchronized, to highlight the differentiated visual cues caused by the botox-induced muscle paralysis.
This project is generously funded by The British Columbia Arts Council.
